The Baynouna solar plant is the largest solar energy project in Jordan. Developed as part of Jordan’s Independent Power Producer Program (IPP), Baynouna represents a successful international foreign investment in Jordan’s growing renewable energy sector.
With investment exceeding US$230 Million, the project is borne of a fruitful collaboration between Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), Taaleri Energia and National Electric Power Company (NEPCO). The plant will generate 563.3 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity each year – equivalent to 4% of the annual energy consumption of Jordan.
Contributing to the Kingdom’s sustainability goals, Baynouna will supply clean renewable energy for 160,000 homes, replacing 1.4 billion litres of imported crude oil, and displacing an estimated 360,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
